Brief of the Environmental Days

College of Business Environmental Day aimed to raise awareness on the importance of environmental protection for economic development as well as on the need to adopt more sustainable production and consumption patterns. The activities during the Environmental day included presentations, videos and posters presented have been successful in raising awareness and in showing concrete examples of how we can practice the concept in our daily lives. The plantation session was good to aid in making or Campus Green and Clean.  This event is the “beginning” of a series of concrete actions to leap and adopt a lifestyle that enables us to achieve a sustainable consumption and production pattern.

COB appreciated the guests from Tadweer, Al Ain Municipality, and Lootah BioFuels as their products from Used Cooking Oil as a less expensive, renewable and clean fuel to reduce waste while increase recycling..

The College of Business at Al Ain University organized each year for the last three years the environmental day at Al Ain Campus “the Second Annual Environment Day under the theme "Towards a Safe and sustainable Environment", under the supervision of Dr. Mosab Tabash, Dr. Shorouq Eletter and Dr. Maha Rahrouh. The main purpose of the day is to raise the community awareness regarding the environmental risks and how to protect the environment.

The annual environmental day has a set of different activities, especially with the participation / cooperation with Tadweer “Abu Dhabi Waste Management Center”. The aim of the cooperation with Tadweer is to closely know the programs that the UAE government follow to protect the environment. Eng. Khaled Alkhanbshi, Dr. Mathangi Radhakrishnan and Nashwa Al Amri gave a detailed presentation on Tadweer and projects done to protect environment and reduce pollution especially recycling. Dr. Adel Ahmed, Dean of College of Business gave a brief about environment awareness. Students were given a chance to contribute, and compete, in one (or more, if possible) of the following: products made from Recycled Materials, videos and/or posters. The topics of students’ contributions should be of anything related to saving our environment such as Air Quality, Renewable Energy, Recycling, Pollution reduction, Plantations, Waste Management, Climate Change, Water Security, and others. Students’ products were successful in raising awareness and in showing concrete examples of how we can practice the concept in our daily lives. The winners of the best Poster, Video, and Best product had received prizes at the end of the activity and, moreover, all participants had received certificates of participation.

The day activity was enriched by having our guest speakers from Tadweer, Al Ain Municipality. The given talks were very informative and encouraging towards a safe and sustainable environment, in addition to the fun that all attendees had during the “Questions” session and the kind gifts distributed by Tadweer members.

The “Adopting a plant” initiative was very exciting and all attendees had got at least one plant to take care of. Updates of the plants growths were suggested to be uploaded on the university website (blog).

The plantation session was very much productive as we, with the university president practiced and enjoyed contributing into making our Campus Greener and Cleaner.
