Elements of Green Building Implementation as Reflected in All Construction and Renovation Policies

Al Ain University started operating the new expansion building at Al Ain campus in preparation for starting the first semester of the academic year 2019-2020. The operation witnessed the transfer of the College of Education, Humanities and Social Sciences, the College of Business, and the College of Communication and Media.

The building is designed to meet the highest environmental sustainability standards recommended by the Abu Dhabi Government, using energy efficient and heat-retardant polystyrene building materials.

The highest standards of excellence in modern design and quality have been applied to the new building, which comprises of 11,000 square meters set over a wide green area surrounded by palm trees. The new expansion consists of two floors and a ground floor. It contains 10 ‘smart’ classrooms equipped with advanced display screens, internal speakers, and state of the art AV systems.

The building has eight laboratories equipped with the latest interactive technology, three main meeting rooms, discussion rooms, seminar and conference rooms, and a large multi-purpose auditorium as well as research and study halls. In addition to the entertainment and service facilities.

Policies:

• Thanks to the skylights in the roof, daylight is maximized in the building and the need for energy is minimized. Large windows, central patios and ceiling lights make the most of daylight.

• Buildings are designed as interior courtyards and light cladding for interior and exterior spaces is provided.

• Thanks to the design of wide-opening front and hallway windows in four directions, the possibility of natural ventilation is very high.

• An energy officer has been appointed at our university and is actively working on campus.
