Electricity Usage per Year

For more than thirty years, the United Arab Emirates has experienced rapid population growth and economic and industrial development, along with rapidly increasing demand for electricity. In 1975, the total number of electricity customers was 351,531 and total peak loads were just 300MW. Thirty-two years later, in 2007, the number of clients reached 5,182,539 and electricity demand increased, as total peak loads reached 34,953MW.

Based on a recent  independent  planning  study,  the  peak  load  will continue  to  rapidly  rise.  The  study  shows  that it  is expected to reach 57,808 MW by year 2023. Figure 1 shows the  peak  load  most-likely-case  forecasts  and  the  needed generation capacity over the next fifteen years. To  show  the  actual  increase  in  power  generation  anddemand,  major  2007  indicators  compared  with  2006,  as published by SEC, are presented in Table 1
