Organic Waste Treatment

An effective recycling program in Al Ain University focuses on reducing waste, reusing useful materials and recycling them by converting waste materials into new materials like paper, towels, water bottles…. etc.

A large amount of trash is produced on a daily basis and insure that the amount of trash that ends up in landfills is reduced, and that recyclable items are turned into new products.

The university has an agreement with the Waste Management Company to transport all types of general waste.

The units that produce organic waste within the campus are dining rooms and cafés. Foodservice in the university is outsourced. The contracted companies indicated below manage the disposal of organic wastes from landfills in regular periods. They collect the organic waste. All of the waste oils obtained in the campus are used in Biodiesel production.

There are more than 1,000 trees on our campus. The large amount of branch and leaf debris generated as a result of pruning and maintenance processes is composted with a composting machine, and then the mulch is converted into fertilizer after the necessary processes. The obtained fertilizer is used in the lower parts of the trees. Thus, trees and other plants are fed with natural, organic and much healthier fertilizers. This waste is recycled, both saving and contributing to the environment. Furthermore, by eliminating the problem of storage, the risk of fire is also reduced.
