Transportation (TR)

A fundamental goal of Al Ain is to become a green university with a focus on internal transportation policy that helps students and staff reduce personal use of cars and motorcycles on campus trips. At AAU, most of the administrative and academic staff use their own means of transportation and the fewest people use public transportation. Vehicles managed by the AAU are used for official purposes and also for student transportation services.

Officially, AAU actively uses its cars to receive guests, to move within the emirates; conferences, meetings, accreditation purposes

In AAU most of the Admin and Academic staff use their own mode of transport and the very less population use public transport. The AAU managed vehicles are used for the official purposes and also for students’ shuttle services.

Officially AAU uses its cars actively for receiving guests, to move within the emirates for; conferences, meetings, accreditation purposes etc.  


Number of cars entering the university daily

In AAU most of the Admin and Academic staff uses their own mode of transport and the very less population use public transport. The students are provided with shuttle services and also the students are given liberty to come on their own transport. However, the total number of cars entering the AAU are approximately 600. 


Number of motorcycles entering the university daily

In UAE, majority of the residents do not use motorcycles and hence in AAU no stakeholders are using motorcycle. However, there are newspapers delivered in the AAU library in both its campuses which comes in motorcycle.

As part of the services offered in AAU, the student transportation, AAU provides transportation with the following features: - Covering the Al Ain area - Extending to Al Yahar, Al Maqam, Mazyad, and Al Ain-Dubai Road all the way until Ramlet Al Ra’i; - Class times are taken into consideration when scheduling the bus timetable.

These 2 shuttles are available (6 days per week, from 06h:00 AM till 08h:00 PM, depends on the lectures timings).

The average number of passengers of each shuttle is 10 passengers per shuttle.

From the time students are admitted into AAU until their graduation, they will have access to a wide range of support services, and facilities. These services are designed and offered in order to help students attain their personal growth and academic achievement.

Zero Emission Vehicles (ZEV) Policy on Campus

Al Ain University has introduced, since 2018, a new eco-friendly transportation service for students to assist in their mobility between buildings and various sections within the university campus. Average number of Zero Emission Vehicles (ZEV) on campus per day

A zero-emissions vehicle, or ZEV, is a vehicle that never emits exhaust gas from the onboard source of power, The AAU encourages students to travel by the campus shuttle service to reduce carbon emission.

AAU is covered with trees and plants throughout the campus especially near the parking areas, assembly points, and surrounding the buildings which gives a pleasant atmosphere and natural shade for the parking area. AAU has only ground parking areas.

The AAU has a huge campus space capable of holding more than 500 cars at a time, AAU has separate parking areas for AAU staff and students. Moreover, male and female students have separate parking areas.

Program to limit or decrease the parking area on campus for the last 3 years (from 2019 to 2021)

Promote the use of bicycles for short-term routes for students and staff activities, encouraging them to use the transportation provided by the university and reducing the use of their cars, leading to a reduction in the use of parking.

In addition to AAU's fleet of buses and other college vehicles, there are a variety of other alternatives that can be accessed from campus.

AAU has run campaigns to promote car sharing. Students can offer spots at specific times and routes for other students to request space. Those who offer to share their vehicle have the parking service for free.

The transportation policy within Al Ain University is configured to operate bikes, golf carts and service buses in line with the GREEN UNIVERSITY policy, the use of green public transportation that will reduce the carbon footprint on campus. Read more...

Pedestrian Path Policy on Campus

The AAU campus has a balance open space with building density to avoid a sprawling scale. As students and employees have strict time routines (e.g., as little as 10 minutes between classes), expanding the campus too large will discourage walking and force students to drive around campus, hence AAU has pedestrian walkways and pedestian cross inside campus.
